Wayside is a fully independent, private dental practice led by owner Dr. Robin Horton. Established in 1938 we are the oldest dental practice in Harpenden. We are also leaders in technology and committed to innovation. We invest heavily in equipment, technology and staff so we can provide the best and most up to date dental treatments available including general, cosmetic, implant and laser dentistry. We have more lasers than any other practice in Europe, are fully digital and offer airflow hygiene as standard.

Dental lasers work brilliantly for almost all treatments. Their precision makes them the ideal partner to digital dentistry. Being incredibly gentle they are superb for children’s dentistry and their healing and anti-microbial effect is ideal for surgery. Dr. Robin Horton is a fellow of both the Academy of Laser Dentistry and the World Clinical Laser Institute. With over 20 years of experience, he teaches laser dentistry to clinicians all over the world. Awareness of the benefits of light therapy for healing is increasing exponentially.

BENEFITS OF DIGITAL DENTISTRY
Technological advances have transformed the way we do dentistry making it safer, more predictable and highly accurate.
Digital dentistry has given us more control over the final result across all our treatments. CBCT scans and navigated implant surgery have made implant dentistry safer and more predictable. Intra-oral scans mean no more gloopy impressions, they are way more accurate and can be instantly emailed to an outside or our own dental laboratory. Face Scanners allow us to visualise and plan with you any cosmetic work and assist the technician too. CAD/CAM allows us to design and mill/3D print many dental devices.
OUR TREATMENTS
General Dentistry
There is an increasing body of evidence linking poor oral health to the severity of other diseases, including Covid. We recommend regular check-ups and visits to our hygienists- we are lucky to have five and they all use EMS airflow. We offer the full range of dental treatments and with our milling machine and 3D printer, can make many dental devices on site.
Looking after your teeth and gums is important not only for your appearance but also for your general health.
Cosmetic Dentistry
There are many ways to improve your smile, such as tooth whitening, veneers, composite bonding and invisible braces. Technology allows us to show you what your smile will look like before we start treatment and allows us to be more minimally invasive and precise. New materials help us to make cosmetic work appear indistinguishable from natural teeth.
A beautiful smile works wonders and if we like the appearance of our teeth, we smile more.
Dental Implants
We are extremely proud to be the first practice in the UK to be a Centre of Excellence for X-Guide Navigated Implant Surgery. We place all implants using this technology and believe this to be the new standard of care. We use only the Nobel Biocare implant system which has a proven track record and excellent clinical results.

We are fortunate to have excellent, dedicated and highly trained clinicians who have been with us for many years who all share our ethos to provide patient centred, advanced and comfortable dental care. Combining all our training and expertise allows us to offer almost all dental treatments at Wayside rather than having to travel elsewhere. All clinicians share Dr. Robin Horton’s passion for laser dentistry and have undertaken considerable training to be able to provide this, thus raising our standard of dental care.
