A single missing tooth or, worse, missing teeth often has a negative impact on our quality of life. We all instinctively know the first part of any social interaction starts with scanning a person’s face and in particular looking at their smile. Being self-conscious about your teeth is, therefore, a natural consequence of being social animals. Add to this the fact that missing teeth can cause wider problems with oral health AND impacts on how and what we can eat; and you can see why happiness, mood and everyday life can be so affected by this.

For these reasons it’s clear why Dental Implant treatment is now such an important aspect of dentistry. A dental option that’s proven to permanently replace teeth, bring back your missing smile and boost confidence is proving to be the big game-changer in dentistry over the last 10 years.

The great news for Wayside Dental patients is the implant procedure we now offer is the most advanced and successful in dentistry. We don’t place any of our implants freehand or ‘blind’ – without seeing exactly where it is going. Our implants are planned using a Cone Beam CT scan, providing us with a 3D image of the jaw, and highly specialised computer software. This ensures that implants are placed with the utmost precision in the pre-planned area. This makes the procedure safer, quicker, predictable, reduces the need for bone grafts and is a lot more comfortable. It also means we can place implants where we wouldn’t have done before we had this technology, so they can be available to patients who have suffered considerable bone loss.

In order to provide the most comprehensive, comfortable, pain free and precise dental implants, Wayside Dental offers the most advanced computer guided implant surgery by fully trained and highly experienced dental surgeons.

The computer guided implant surgery process makes it possible to view the overall anatomy of the jaw, teeth and surrounding tissues. This helps the surgeons to know exactly where the implant is to be placed; before starting the surgery.

The overall process of dental implants using the computer guided implant surgery is as follows:

  • Overall scan of your jaw area:
With the help of the most sophisticated Cone Beam CT scanner, our surgeons are able to generate an accurate 3-dimensional image of the jaw area including the exact teeth positions, bone quality and quantity, nerve tissues and any sinus cavities.
  • Creation of 3D model:
Once we have this detailed information, with the help of highly specialised software from Nobel Biocare, we are able to create a 3D model of the jaw so we can ‘virtually’ place the implants in the optimum position.
  • Prepare Drilling Guide
The 3D model with the virtual placement is then sent to the specialised laboratories to prepare the precise drilling guide using 3D printing, which is used during surgery.

Implant Process:

Once the drilling guide is ready, our highly experienced surgeons use this to place the implant precisely where planned. The surgery is performed with a dental laser thus making the procedure even more minimally invasive and using the laser promotes healing, reduces swelling and often obviates the need for stitches.

The overall benefits of computer guided implant surgery are:

  • Precise and accurate treatment
  • Minimal incision thereby minimal pain
  • Prevents damage to vital structures
  • Faster Recovery
  • Better aesthetic outcome so the implant looks completely natural.
